What brought you to Sweet Balance?
My wife Robyn came home one night after taking a class and couldn’t stop talking about how amazing it was. She talked about how awesome the instructor was and how amazing all the people were. I could see the energy in her eyes and right then I knew I had to take a class and experience it for myself.
What was your first class at SB?
My first class was Beginner Yoga with Rae Ann.
I remember it was a Monday night class and as I walked in something just felt right. It was like a force of some kind was letting me know that this was going to be the start of something special at Sweet Balance.
What is your favorite class at SB and why?
My favorite class at Sweet Balance is Strong Slow Flow Yoga with RaeAnn.
Every time I take the class I feel challenged but relaxed at the same time.
RaeAnn has this special way of making you feel so comfortable and teaching you to listen to your own body. The class makes me feel so aware of my body while at the same time learning about my own balance, flexibility, and strength.
What is the biggest transformation you have seen since coming here?
I have been taking 2 classes a week for the past year at Sweet Balance. When I am not at a yoga class I am out running. I am not a race runner. I have never done a 5K, half marathon or even a marathon. While I run I do clock my miles and time.
Month after month and yoga class after yoga class I noticed that my running pace has progressively been getting better. A year later and I have shaved off a minute off my running pace. I know for a fact that yoga classes at Sweet Balance has made me a faster and stronger runner.
Has there been an impact on your life off the mat?
Biggest impact on my life off the mat is feeling centered. I have learned how to let things go and how to let things be no matter what the universe throws my way. The first thing I do when I wake up in the morning is set an intention for the day. I know yoga has allowed me be more centered, more focused and learn how to quiet my mind. I have become more spiritual and balanced.
What is your favorite yoga pose? How does that pose make you feel?
My favorite yoga pose is crow. When I am in the pose I feel strong. I feel like I am flying and I am not bound to fear. That moment my feet are off the ground it’s like nothing is holding me down. In a way I feel like I reach the other side of fear.
For anyone who is afraid to experience yoga or thinks that yoga is not for them or they’re not flexible or fit enough, what would you say to them?
Try it! Don’t be afraid or intimidated. It’s not about if you can touch your toes...it’s about just being there. It’s finding the time to better yourself both mentally and physically. Learning how to listen to your body and what it needs and wants. All the instructors at Sweet Balance are so welcoming and they would never make you feel like you couldn’t do something.
How would you describe Sweet Balance to someone who has never been?
There’s something so soothing about being at Sweet Balance.
There might be a thousand and one things hanging on my shoulders that day, but for those few minutes when I walk in to the studio, everything else can wait; everything is still. It’s the place I escape to, not just to practice yoga, but to feel at my most comfortable and relaxed. At Sweet Balance I can simply throw away my worries and focus on me.
