What brought you to Sweet Balance and which class did you take first?

I wanted to try out yoga as a way to get back into a regular exercise routine and try something I haven’t done before. From my first class at Sweet Balance, I knew that was exactly where I wanted to be!

Balanced body was my first class. I was a little intimidated at first, but loved the class and just wanted more.


What is your favorite class at SB and why?

When I first started, my favorite class was Balanced Body. It was similar to other exercise routines I have done in the past. As I continued to practice, I started to really love the yin classes. During the yin classes, I think I’ve really begun to understand the saying “yoga is not about touching your toes, it’s about what you learn about yourself on the way down”. Freeing my mind is something I work on during gentle yin classes. It took a lot of time for me to learn to truly let go and erase my mind during savasana. I now instead try to focus on the sounds around me, essential oils I smell, and the way my body and mind feels after practice.


What is the biggest transformation you have seen since coming here?

I have seen a shift in my body, mood, and mindset since coming to sweet balance. I have learned to recognize what kind of class I need any given day, and sweet balance always has an option that works for me. Since starting at sweet balance, I feel like I live an overall healthier life and feel confident in the progress I have made in my practice and where I am today.




Has there been an impact on your life off the mat? 

Yes, I use the breathing exercises I have learned at sweet balance daily to relax and let my mind go throughout the day. Sweet balance has given me the tools to carry the confidence, optimism, and strength that I learn in class with me in my day to day life.

What is your favorite yoga pose? How does that pose make you feel? 

I remember first starting at sweet balance and thinking during a slow flow class “how is downward dog a resting pose, it’s just as much work as the rest of the flow” but now I completely understand. When I return to downward dog I feel proud that I have changed so much since first starting at sweet balance. I have the strength to complete each flow and feel very rewarded in downward dog.


For anyone who is afraid to experience yoga or think they're not flexible or fit enough, what would you say to them?

Yoga is a practice. Everyone is at a different level and you have to start somewhere! The classes at sweet balance are very inclusive of anyone’s skill level and you can go at whatever pace you need. Yoga is not just about taking care of your body, but also taking care of your mind. I’m a strong believer that everyone should practice yoga!




How would you describe SB to someone who has never been? 

It’s a very welcoming studio that is my favorite part of my day! The instructors are so knowledgeable and helpful, the people are friendly, and you always leave feeling great about what you’ve accomplished for yourself that class.
