Learn How Yoga Supports Weight Loss
According to Harvard Health Publications, "Researchers found that people who practiced yoga for at least 30 minutes once a week for at least four years, gained less weight during middle adulthood. People who were overweight actually lost weight. Overall, those who practiced yoga had lower body mass indexes (BMIs) compared with those who did not practice yoga. Researchers attributed this to mindfulness. Mindful eating can lead to a more positive relationship with food and eating."
Breath in. Pause. Breath out. Pause. That’s how simple this practice can be. Yoga & meditation guides us to slowing down and arriving into the ‘power of now.’ Every conscious breath connects us to feeling our feelings. This allows us to become more sensitive and connected with our needs and increases our desire for self care. The more consistent we practice, the stronger we become at practicing mindfulness beyond our yoga mats.
Food is a sensitive topic for so many of us. Some of us overeat and others are overly restrictive. Needless to say, many of us have a distorted view and relationship with food. It’s such a powerful numbing tool. Everytime we hold back our truth, we swallow it down with a bite of food. Feeling angry? Oh no, it’s time to binge eat. Overcome with sadness? Just get a quick pick me up with a sweet treat. Maybe you were poor growing up so now, your relationship with food is feast or famine. Based on an old belief that you’ll never have enough. Whatever the reason is, we have a way out and that’s by going in!
The practice of mindfulness allows us to tap into what we're really hungry for. Maybe it's feeling more connected to our loved ones. Maybe it's a change of careers. Perhaps it’s time for a complete overhaul. We are living in a society based on consumption. Living out of the box is way more cool! Food will never heal the root of our ‘stuff.’ It’s just a great distractions when not used for fuel. It’s time to tap into our power and tune into our inner intelligence. It's such a blessing to see so much research coming out on the benefits of yoga & meditation but trust that there is something more then clinical studies. There's a magical experience that science will never be able to measure and it's unique to each and every single one of us.
The best part, you don't need any experience to get started. With gentle stretching and meditation you will be able to learn and develop skill sets for bringing more mindfulness into all areas of your life. You will get the opportunity to digest your life. In this process you will slip into the relaxation response and out of the fight or flight response. Stress can be healthy at low levels but if we’re in a constant state of stress we literally electrocute our nervous system. This is what causes obesity. Addictive behaviors. Premature aging. Depression & anxiety. When we practice slowing down and resting, our body will naturally reset itself. Our minds will begin to clear. Cravings start to decrease and our truth will be revealed that it’s not food that we’re really hungry for.
